WE ARE COLLECTING TOILETRIES, DRY FOODS, AND SMALL PRESENTS AND TREATS FOR PROJECT SHOEBOX
/ 07 November 2017 / No CommentsProject Shoebox Oxford helps women and their families who are spending time in an Oxfordshire Women’s Refuge.
Many may arrive with nothing more than the clothes they stand up in as they leave an abusive relationship. Some are able to plan their departure and pack a bag.
We collect unwanted & unused toiletries, cosmetics, and box them as gifts that will help them feel ready to start again. These are distributed through Oxfordshire Domestic Abuse Services to refuges all over the county. We also collect non-perishable food items seperately to help during the first few days in refuge.
Any extra items that are donated help the homeless & refugees through organisations such as Simon House, O’Hanlon House, the Gatehouse, Refugee Resource, and Asylum Welcome.
What can I give?
Basic toiletries:
- Shower gel, deodorant, flannel, soap.
- Shampoo, conditioner, small hairbrush & comb.
- Toothpaste & toothbrush.
- Treats – cosmetics, perfume, sweets
- Tampons or Towels
Other items:
- Slippers
- Socks
- Notebook
Basic foods:
- Tea bags, regular or herbal, 80 pack
- Coffee, regular or decaffeinated, 100g
- UHT milk 1l, sugar 500g
- Tins of soup, vegetables, fruit, fish – 400g size
- Breakfast cereal 750g, crispbreads
- Jam/ marmalade – 340g Pasta 500g & pasta sauce etc
Please Note: No scissors, razors, medicines, mirrors. If possible please put foodstuffs in separate plastic bags for later reallocation.
We ask that all toiletry & cosmetic items are unused and unopened, otherwise we cannot guarantee the hygeine of the item. Any non-perishable food items, we ask that the ‘best-before’ date is at least a month in the future.
As babies and children (both boys and girls) also live in refuge and some babies are born while their mums are living there, we also collect appropriate items for them. Please note, due to storage restrictions we do not collect second hand clothes and toys.
Whatever you are able to give, it all helps to build a gift that will help a woman and her family start again. We are not asking you to fill a box, even a bottle of shampoo or packet of tea bags is a great help.
